At that point, they noticed a strong smell of alcohol on his breath and took him back to the police station to give a blood test, and charged him with being drunk in charge of a vehicle on the road.
Apparently enraged by the incident, the man then returned a few hours later in a car and slammed it into the wall of the police station - which he failed to break through.
He was seriously injured, and had to be cut loose from his wrecked car by rescue workers.
A police car was also seriously damaged, though no officers were injured.
