Woman Stays With Her Horse Stuck In Mud 3 Hours As The Tide Comes In

Nicole Graham, who owns more than 10 horses and runs a horse dentistry business, stayed by the side of 18-year-old Astro, who weighs 78-stone, keeping his head above the mud as rescue teams worked to rescue him.

Miss Graham and her seven-year-old daughter Paris had been out riding along the coast at Avalon Beach on Corio Bay in Victoria, when both horses sank into the mud. The woman was able to help her daughter and the other horse on to firmer ground but Astro proved a different prospect.

Rescuers first tried to pull Astro free with fire hoses, then a winch, but eventually a vet had to sedate the horse and he was eventually pulled clear with a tractor after three hours, minutes before the tide reached him.

"It was terrifying," Miss Graham said to the Geelong Advertiser. "We went straight down and under, there was mud everywhere and every time I moved it suck me back down, it wouldn't let us go."

Good job to Nicole Graham!  I sent her a Facebook friend request and I hope she answers. :)
